Male Athlete AB Hernandez Dominates Girls’ CIF Events

Yorba Linda, CA — On Saturday, May 11, California Family Council will host a press conference with female athletes, women-only sports advocates, and an elected official outside Yorba Linda High School to demand the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) obey federal laws (Title IX) to restore fairness and safety in girls’ sports. The event comes in direct response to an ongoing and urgent situation at the Div. 3 CIF Track & Field Preliminaries, where a male, transgender-identified athlete is currently ranked first in three girls’ events: the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. Governor Gavin Newsom discussed this transgender-identified athlete during his podcast interview in March with Charlie Kirk and admitted letting males compete against females is “deeply unfair.”

This male athlete, AB Hernandez, is set to compete throughout the day on Saturday against high school girls who have trained for years to reach this level. His placement at the top of all three events threatens to displace female athletes from advancing to the CIF Finals—an outcome that violates Title IX and erodes the integrity of female competition.

“I never imagined I’d be fighting to make sure California girls get the same athletic opportunities I had,” said Sophia Lorey, CFC Outreach Director and former college athlete. “But I refuse to stay silent while CIF allows girls to be pushed off the podium and out of their own sports.”

We are calling on CIF to:

  • CLARIFY that girls’ sports must remain exclusively for females
  • COMPLY with federal policy protecting female athletic opportunities.
  • COMMIT to restoring Title IX based on biological reality, not ideology.

In the last 3 days almost 2500 people have signed on to our petition (see here) demanding CIF make these changes.
