CFC’s Sophia Lorey Joins Elected Leaders to Condemn CIF’s Girls Sports Policy Ahead of Clovis Track Meet

California Family Council (CFC) is proud to announce that Outreach Director and former college athlete Sophia Lorey will join a coalition of elected officials and civic leaders, May 29th at 2 p.m., to speak out against the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) continued betrayal of female athletes. The press conference will take place at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District just ahead of the CIF Track and Field Championship at Buchanan High School.

Lorey, who competed at the collegiate level and now works to advance God’s design for Life, Family, and Liberty in California’s Church, Capitol, and Culture, is standing with state and local officials, including State Senator Shannon Grove, Assemblyman David Tangipa, and Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce, to demand accountability from CIF.

“It’s clear even CIF knows this isn’t fair,” said Lorey. “If they have to create special exceptions and backdoor rule changes to placate frustrated athletes, that’s not equality, that’s a confession. Girls’ sports should be for girls, full stop.”

CIF’s Policy: Quiet Corrections, Public Denial

In a stunning display of cognitive dissonance, CIF reaffirmed this week that it will allow a male athlete to compete in three girls’ eventsthe high jump, long jump, and triple jump, despite federal Title IX protections and recent directives from President Trump’s administration.

On May 28th, CIF issued a follow-up statement indicating that if a male athlete qualifies and displaces a female athlete, the “next-best” girl would be added to the finals. Moreover, if a male wins, the corresponding girl will also be awarded a medal, as if a quiet, bureaucratic asterisk could replace fair play on the field.

Lorey responded:
“Enough with this performative covering-your-tail nonsense. Instead of honoring Title IX, CIF is gaslighting parents, coaches, and female athletes. Either stand up for girls or stop pretending you’re being fair.”

This type of two-tiered solution is not protection, it’s placation. CIF’s “workarounds” do not restore the integrity of the competition or the rights of the female athletes who trained hard for their chance at the podium. They only serve to keep the public relations fire from raging hotter.
