California Early Voting Showing Strong Republican Turnout Momentum

As California voters begin casting ballots ahead of this year’s election, early turnout data is showing Republicans returning ballots at a significantly higher rate than Democrats during the first week of voting.

According to Political Data Intelligence in Burbank, approximately 2% of registered Republican voters have already returned their ballots, compared to roughly 1% of Democrat voters statewide.

Data released in the May 11 update showed:

  • Democrats: 41% of ballot returns while accounting for 45% of voter registration
  • Republicans: 36% of ballot returns while accounting for 25% of voter registration

The early numbers are generating enthusiasm among conservative voters and organizations encouraging increased turnout ahead of the election.

Supporters say the momentum highlights growing engagement surrounding several key statewide issues, including California’s upcoming governor’s race and local tax-related measures appearing on ballots across the state.

One of the major storylines in this election cycle is the governor’s race, where Republican candidates including Chad Bianco and Steve Hilton are seeking strong support in California’s “top-two” primary system.

Organizations encouraging voter participation are also urging Californians to pay close attention to local propositions involving:

  • Tax increases
  • Bond measures
  • Assessment proposals
  • Fee hikes
  • Local government funding initiatives
