8th Annual Love Costa Mesa Day Unites Over 1,000 Volunteers to Serve the City

COSTA MESA, Calif. — May 17, 2025 — On Saturday, May 17, more than 1,000 volunteers gathered across Costa Mesa for the 8th Annual Love Costa Mesa Day, a powerful display of unity, compassion, and service that resulted in the successful completion of over 70 projects throughout the city.

From sprucing up schools to assisting seniors with critical home maintenance, Costa Mesa residents came together with one shared purpose: to love and serve their city.

“Together we hauled away heavy items for seniors, landscaped the local soup kitchen, prayed over our city, beautified our schools, and wrote hundreds of letters to our doctors and nurses,” said Reina Cuthill, Love Costa Mesa City Catalyst. “Whatever project you worked on, you helped change lives—and that’s what Love Costa Mesa is all about.”

A Day of Community, Compassion, and Celebration

The day began with an energizing Morning Rally, complete with coffee and inspiration from city leaders, and concluded with a vibrant community celebration lunch at City Hall. Attendees enjoyed live performances, delicious food, and booths featuring local businesses, organizations, and nonprofits.

Love Costa Mesa Day wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible efforts of our 32 partner organizations, the dedication of the Love Costa Mesa Day Committee, and the generous support of local businesses, churches, and nonprofits.

“Thank you so much to our business sponsors, our nonprofit and church partners—this day would not be possible without your support,” said Cuthill.

Ongoing Impact: Labors of Love

Love Costa Mesa Day may be over, but the mission continues. On June 7, a group of volunteers known as Labors of Love will come together to serve Nancy, a long-time Costa Mesa resident in her eighties living alone on a fixed income. Volunteers will help clear weeds, trim overgrown brush, and restore her property so she can safely remain in her home.

“This is a growing need in our city,” said Cuthill. “We have more and more neighbors like Nancy—people who simply can’t afford to maintain their homes and face losing them because of it. That’s where we step in.”

How You Can Help

Community members are invited to support this ongoing work by donating to the Labors of Love initiative.

A $25 donation will go directly toward supporting vulnerable residents like Nancy, helping to maintain safe, livable conditions and preserve housing for those in need.

Building a City Where Everyone Belongs

“Love Costa Mesa Day is more than an event—it’s a movement,” said Cuthill. “I hope being a part of this day brought you as much joy as it did hope to those we served. The more we give, the more we truly have.”

As we look ahead, the Love Costa Mesa team invites everyone to stay engaged, continue serving, and be part of building a more connected, compassionate city—one neighbor at a time.

Together, we loved Costa Mesa. And together, we will continue.
