California Family Council Hosting National Day of Prayer

**Faith Leaders to Gather on East Steps While Satanic Temple Holds Rituals on West Steps**

SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Family Council (CFC) invites media representatives to cover its National Day of Prayer observance on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on the east side of the State Capitol in Sacramento, near the Native American Monument. This year’s event takes on particular significance as it occurs simultaneously with the Satanic Temple of Northern California’s “observance” on the west steps of the same building.

CFC President Jonathan Keller will deliver an address highlighting the essential role prayer has played throughout American history, from the Mayflower Compact to modern day. The event comes just two weeks after satanists disrupted a Chino Valley Unified School District board meeting with chants of “Hail Satan” as parents advocated for policies protecting children.

“The spiritual divide in California has never been more visible than it will be on May 1st,” said Keller. “As followers of Jesus gather to pray for our state and nation on one side of the Capitol, those explicitly invoking darkness will gather on the other. We invite all Californians who believe in the power of prayer to join us in this crucial moment.”

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of faith to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The day was permanently designated as the first Thursday in May by President Ronald Reagan in 1988.
